Chopstix to open in Perry Barr with 12 new jobs and 99p noodles
The noodle chain's new branch at One Stop Shopping Centre will seat 67, and a city centre branch on New Street could follow.
The noodle bar chain Chopstix is opening a new restaurant at the One Stop Shopping Centre in Perry Barr, creating 12 jobs and marking its arrival with 99p noodles on opening day.
The new branch will have room for 67 diners, and will be open every day from 10.30am until 11pm, with takeaway and delivery as well as eating in. Chopstix has more than 140 branches across the UK.
A 99p launch
On opening day the doors open at 11am, with noodles at 99p and in-store giveaways running until 3pm. Among the chain's best-known dishes are sweet and sour chicken, salt 'n' pepper chicken, chicken katsu curry and its signature caramel drizzle chicken.
Gareth Brannigan, head of new store openings for Chopstix, said: "In each new location we open, we have been blown away by the response from customers. So many people are looking for a quick, tasty and affordable option for lunch, and Chopstix is the ideal option for fresh flavours on-the-go."
"It's a really exciting time for our business as a whole, and we're excited to welcome our local fans to the store when we open our doors," he said.
More choice for shoppers
The restaurant will be at Unit 91 of the centre. One Stop's centre manager, Adal Raja, welcomed the new tenant. "We know our customers enjoy having a choice of different food options, so it's great to be adding something new to the mix," he said.
"There's lots in store for the launch and we're looking forward to seeing the store open and adding even more choice to our food offer."
For the shopping centre, it means another occupied unit and another reason for shoppers to stay a little longer. For Perry Barr, it means a dozen new jobs on the doorstep.
A city centre branch could follow
Perry Barr may not be the chain's only new Birmingham home. Earlier this month, Birmingham City Council gave Chopstix planning permission for changes to 64 New Street in the city centre, the former Boojum unit, which had previously been a Second Cup coffee shop. If those plans go ahead, the city centre will gain a branch too.
A changing area
Perry Barr has seen a great deal of change in recent years, with a new railway station and bus interchange opening ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and the former athletes' village being turned into homes. New businesses moving into the One Stop centre are part of that picture, giving people living in the new homes more places to shop and eat locally.
