Ryanair is adding five new routes from Birmingham Airport this winter, giving travellers more choice of city breaks and winter sun.

The new routes for winter 2026 to 2027 are to Copenhagen, Rome Fiumicino, Marrakech, Tirana and Warsaw Modlin.

Other airlines expanding too

Ryanair is not the only airline adding flights. Jet2 has announced new winter routes from Birmingham to Copenhagen, Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, and easyJet has added services to Milan and Tivat in Montenegro.

Fares may rise

Ryanair's chief executive, Michael O'Leary, has warned that higher oil prices will push up the cost of flying. "Fares for Ryanair passengers and every other passenger into the summer of 2027 are going to rise materially, I believe, because of significantly higher oil prices," he said.

Jet fuel is one of airlines' biggest costs, and the price of oil has risen sharply this year because of the war involving Iran.

A busy year for the airport

Birmingham Airport had a record August this year, although it apologised to passengers affected by a fault with its baggage system. The airport is the busiest in the region and serves destinations across Europe, the Middle East and beyond.

When the winter schedule starts

Airlines' winter schedules begin at the end of October, when the clocks go back, and run until the end of March. Start dates for individual routes vary, so passengers should check with the airline before booking.

Getting to the airport

Birmingham Airport is linked to Birmingham International railway station by a free Air-Rail Link, with trains to New Street taking around ten minutes. It is also served by buses and is close to junction 6 of the M42.

Before you fly

Travellers heading to countries outside the European Union should check passport validity and entry rules, and those travelling to the Schengen area should be aware of the EU's new Entry/Exit System, which records non-EU travellers' fingerprints and photographs at the border.
