Gateley brings four property firms under one brand

Birmingham-based professional services group Gateley has brought four of its property businesses together under a single brand, Gateley Built Environment.

The new business combines Gateley Smithers Purslow, Gateley Vinden, Gateley RJA and Gateley Hamer. It has around 325 staff, and Gateley says it will be one of the UK's largest multidisciplinary technical consultancies serving the built environment.

What the firms do

The four businesses provide specialist services to property owners, developers and public bodies. Their work includes building surveying, engineering, construction advice and land referencing, which is the process of identifying who owns land needed for major projects such as roads and railways.

Bringing them under one name is intended to make it easier for clients to use several services at once and to strengthen Gateley's property platform.

About Gateley

Gateley was founded in Birmingham and is headquartered in the city. It began as a law firm and in 2015 became the first commercial law firm in the UK to list on the London Stock Exchange. Since then it has bought a number of complementary businesses, including consultancies, to offer clients more than legal advice.

A strong professional services sector

Birmingham is one of the largest centres for professional services outside London, with law firms, accountants, consultants and surveyors concentrated in the Colmore Business District and around Brindleyplace and Paradise.

Why property services are busy

Large infrastructure projects such as HS2 and major regeneration schemes need specialist advice on land, buildings and construction. At the same time, new building safety rules introduced after the Grenfell Tower fire have increased demand for surveyors and engineers who can assess existing buildings.
