Free Champions Square fan zone to bring European Athletics to Centenary Square
A giant screen, silent discos and a fountain turned into a running track run from 13 to 16 August.
Centenary Square is being turned into Champions Square, the free official fan zone for the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships, from 13 to 16 August.
Visitors can watch the action from Alexander Stadium live on a giant screen, alongside four days of free, family-friendly performances and workshops.
What is on
- Finish Line, a new artwork by Stirchley artist Megan Reddi, turning the square's fountain into a running track where visitors can race each other.
- Go for Gold silent discos every evening from 7.30pm, with each night's finals on the big screen.
- Jump for Joy! workshops, from dance fitness to line dancing, with no experience needed.
- A Cuban salsa community party on Saturday, and performances from local dance groups and musicians throughout.
- Appearances by the championship mascot, Bab the Bull, from Thursday to Saturday.
The fan zone is open 10am to 10pm on Thursday and Friday, and 7am to 10pm at the weekend. The programme is produced by Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces (OPUS), and the new artwork was co-commissioned with Ikon Gallery.
"Champions Square is going to be buzzing next week, with fun activities and challenges for everyone to enjoy," said Councillor Deborah Harries, Cabinet Member for Culture.
