Birmingham could hit 25C on Tuesday before heavy rain
A warm, blustery Tuesday gives way to a wet and windy Wednesday.
Birmingham could see temperatures of 25C on Tuesday, well above average for the end of September, before heavy rain and strong winds arrive on Wednesday.
The forecast for Birmingham
- Monday: a fine day with sunny intervals, a top temperature of 18C and little chance of rain. Sunrise is at 7.04am and sunset at 6.52pm.
- Tuesday: warm and blustery, with highs of 25C and gusts of up to 27 miles per hour. There is a 30 per cent chance of rain.
- Wednesday: wet and windy, with a 95 per cent or greater chance of rain and gusts of up to 29 miles per hour. The rain should clear later, with a top temperature of 22C.
- Thursday: more settled, with highs of 18C.
- Friday and Saturday: dry and bright, with highs of 18 to 20C and lows of around 10C.
Why so warm?
The warmth on Tuesday comes from warm air drawn up from the south ahead of an area of low pressure approaching from the Atlantic. The same weather system will bring the rain and wind on Wednesday.
What the rain means
After a very dry September, the rain will be welcome for gardens and parks. However, hard ground can make heavy rain run off quickly, and drains blocked by fallen leaves can cause surface water on roads. Drivers should slow down and leave more space in wet conditions.
A fresher feel
Behind the rain, temperatures will fall back closer to normal for the time of year. The Met Office says the weather should become more settled from Thursday, with dry and bright weather and easing winds.
