Stirchley brewery Attic has started supplying its beer to two of Birmingham's biggest venues, and made the first delivery by narrowboat.

Attic beers are now on sale at Utilita Arena Birmingham and BP Pulse LIVE, giving concert and comedy crowds the choice of a locally brewed pint.

Down the canal

To mark the first delivery to the arena, Attic swapped its van for a narrowboat. The keg set off near Bournville station, a short distance from the brewery, and travelled along the canal to Old Turn Junction beside the arena.

The brewery's 4.4 per cent flagship pale ale, Intuition, will be on tap at both venues, alongside a selection of Attic cans.

"Instead of beer travelling hundreds of miles to reach the bar, ours is brewed just down the road in Stirchley," said Jo Farn, marketing executive at Attic. "It means fresher beer, fewer miles travelled and money going back into an independent Birmingham business."

Co-owner Oli Hurlow described seeing Intuition poured at venues of that size as "a massive moment" for the brewery.

The partnership brings together two Birmingham businesses, the independent brewery and the NEC Group, which runs both venues.
